Udemy

How to generate recurring income and make a name for yourself with Udemy.

Top creators earn over $100k/year from their udemy courses!

The first one that caught my eye (which I signed up for) was someone one created a course about how to create an awesome demo video for your business. At the time I signed up, he over 1,200 students who signed up and regular price is $297. The catalyst (selling point?) for me was that I believe it would allow me to create a good video for Kickstarter, where I could earn an ROI from. As a small business owner, the only courses I sign up for are ones I believe I'll get a good Return on Investment (ROI) from.

He used affiliates, discounted the course, 50% (most of the time)... ran it on Appsumo at an 80% discount.

What does it take to be successful?

  1. Course has to provide VALUE – something worth MORE than you paid for it! Think of the ROI.. What is it? Can you show it?

  2. Find a NICHE market (one that has little competition). Udemy probably doesn't need another course of self-publishing – does it? What NICHE within self-publishing can I sell? Maybe KDP Select?

  3. Must be entertaining! (bring in the things from your speaking!)

  4. You have to be good at promoting! If you aren't find people who are. Apply what you already know!!

How to productize your knowledge

This is a critical concept to grasp. This is how you bring in $$ while you sleep. It gives you visibility. Gets you off the service hamster wheel. Service business can't scale and aren't worth jack.

Education as a video can be a product. You can make money with that video. The course is broken into 5 segments

  1. Prerequisites

I have what I need with the PC & Mac. Screen-o-matic is an open source solution Camstudio is free for windows

More tools at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_screencasting_software

Sound: Eliminate background noise, use a microphone.

  1. Putting together a course

5-10 min chunks. Just do it... be sure to have the system setup & ready to go. Perhaps I could come back and reorder them later? This would be especially useful for Markdown and Bootstrap since there are so many different use scenarios.

This is key to share my knowledge & scale myself.

It's how you can create value for others. It's turning pixels into profit!

Passion is more important than 'expertise'

His #1 recommendation is to MAKE IT FUN (for your audience... this is what MOST people miss!)
