Streamyard

We use Streamyard for our Tech Reads podcasts.

It's far superior in audio quality to Zoom, but does require you have a decent broadband connection. 5G is ok, but otherwise a standard cell connection is not likely good enough.

Here are some tips from Streamyard if you are having issues with connection quality.

My stream/my guest's stream is blurry and/or laggy

Does your/your guest's video look clear inside the StreamYard studio while streaming, and blurry on the live broadcast/recording? Issues like this are usually due to a poor or unstable internet connection. On StreamYard the quality of each person's video/audio feed is dependent on their own individual internet connection. This way, if the host of the stream has a poor connection, it will not impact the guests (and vice versa). This also means if a certain participant in the studio is suffering from quality issues, they will need to troubleshoot their own connection on their end.

Troubleshooting quality problems

  1. Test your internet speeds. We recommend a minimum of 5-10 mb/s upload speed in order to stream successfully with StreamYard.

  2. A stable connection is much more important than a quick one while livestreaming with StreamYard. If you are using WiFi, try plugging directly into the router. If that isn’t possible, try to improve your signal by moving closer to the router. Also, make sure that other people you share the internet connection with aren’t streaming videos, uploading large files, or doing other high bandwidth activities.

  3. Sometimes the browser being used can cause issues as well. We recommend trying to switch browsers (From Chrome to Firefox, or vice versa) and see if that helps as well.

  4. If you're still having issues, try closing out of all extra unnecessary tabs/applications that may be open, and restart your computer fully.

  5. In rare cases, an old router might be causing issues -- if you are hardwired and continue to have issues, try restarting or replacing the router. Before replacing the router, you should contact your ISP and ask them if there are any issues in your area
