StickK

StickK is a very slick way to hold yourself accountable to your goals.

From my experience, until someone is willing to put their own money towards it, it's far more likely they'll lose their commitment to it. Good intentions have no legs. A true commitment is one that earns our full attention, reflects a willingness to make the necessary sacrifices, and is something we want be held accountable to.

A key aspect of StickK is the regular reporting to a referee.

StickK defines a Referee as "an individual or an organization that you select to monitor and verify the progress of your Commitment Contract. The Referee can be anyone you want; a friend, your spouse or even your boss."

Every time you submit a report, your Referee receives an email asking to confirm the report's accuracy. Your Referee may choose to take your word for it, or ask you for proof that you kept your Commitment.

Commitment Contracts

The One-Shot Commitment

One-Shot Commitments should be chosen for goals that must be completed by the ending date of the Commitment Contract. Only one report will be requested (due on the final day of the Commitment Contact) for One-Shot Commitments.

Example: It's January 1st and you commit to finishing your Masters thesis by March 1st. Between January 1st and March 1st, you can work on the thesis at any pace you'd like. At the time of your deadline (in this case March 1st), you file a single report. If you complete the thesis on time, you report that you succeeded. If you do not, you report that you were unsuccessful.

Ongoing Commitment

Ongoing Commitments should be chosen for goals that can be completed in stages, where each stage is measured independently in the form of weekly reports. You chose the number of weeks you will need to achieve your goal.

Example: You commit to writing five pages of your Masters thesis every week, for a period of eight weeks. At the end of each week, you file a report. If you wrote the five pages that week, you report success. If you didn´t, you report that you were unsuccessful.

Often times the nature of your goal automatically dictates whether it is a one-shot goal or if it will be ongoing. Some goals can be pursued either way, so choose whichever method you think will work best for you. If you´re a procrastinator, you might want to opt for ongoing!

Reporting

Each week, you are required to submit a report to your designated referee. You are given a 72 hour window to report. Your referee then has to approve it.

When you fail to report, your credit card is charged the amount at stake for that week.

Hit 1 - Financially

Hit 2 - Pride - your Supporters and whomever you staked your money towards will receive an email notifying them of your result.

Referee

I am available to be your referee.

You only pay when you fail to make your commitment. Each week, you submit a report regarding the success of your StickK goal (on your honor). You only pay when you fail to achieve it.

Simply add me as your referee: brianschwartz

Set the payout (the amount is up to you) to go to your referee each time you fail.

Optional: We can also have a 15-minute check in each week.
