Spin Cycle

Have you ever had a washing machine get out of balance during the spin cycle? Do you notice the turbulence of the washer when it starts to shake, to the extent it becomes violent?

Our thoughts are in a constant spin cycle and they too often lose balance. Our minds get stuck on a spin cycle and we must hit pause and rebalance the load.

Hit pause by implementing this post-meditation technique.

If you can take a few minutes to meditate, great. If not, take a few deep breaths. Imagine you are reawakening from a deep mediation or a shavasana at the end of yoga. Remember what your teachers advise:

At this moment, we are most receptive. At this moment, you reintroduce your intention.

As you begin to look around, keep your eyes fixed when you move your head. Like a site on a gun, you can only see what is visible through the scope. Take it all in.

When I awake from a deep meditation and I want it to linger as long as possible.

My breathing slows. I only observe through a soft gaze. Take a few deep breaths. I slowly rotate my head left and right. I keep a soft gaze on everything around me as I witness the glow with a heightened sense of awareness.

When my mind stops spinning, I recognize the magic in the present moment.

The spin cycle slowly starts up again, but this time it's not out of balance.
