Peace Love Happiness (PLH) - AKA Peace Love Joy (PLJ)

PLH is omnipresent within. It has been within since the day we were born and it will be with us until the day we die.

The big 'cosmic joke' - the secret that is ultimately discovered by spiritual seekers is that the 'peace, love, and happiness' we've been seeking has been within us all along.

What I see is that certain activities, people, places, and events either enliven the PLH within or hide it from view. This ties back to the general belief that all people are inherently good. And with compassion, I see that their 'bad' nature is the result of the 'bad' experiences they've had.

Be Kind, Have Fun

The second half of the 'Be Kind, Have Fun' philosophy of life is Fun. Happiness is the result of finding the joy. Finding joy is the result of discoving what brings you joy and carving out more time to do those things and be around those people.

You don't find the time, you make the time. You don't find the joy, you create it. You don't find the love, you make it. You don't find the peace, you cultivate it.

It seems that the outside world is constantly attempting to fill our time, so we must stay vigilant to protect our time.

The first half 'Be Kind' by the way is all about being kind to yourself and others. I love Tom Papa's riff on the personal improvement movement. In his 2022 tour, he pokes fun at the absurdity of our never-ending quest to improve ourselves. To paraphrase what he says:

At the end of the day there's really just one thing you need to do today: stay alive (and not kill anyone).

I used to be in a state of perpetual anxiety with all that I had todo. It was a ever growing list and I felt like I was always catching up... always running out of time.

Reestablishing my relationship to time (and my incessant need control it), I decided to put time in it's place.

"Being in the present moment" is the only moment time actually exists. Everything else is just a thought that only exists in my mind (and thus doesn't actually exist).

I use this mantra to bring my back to 'present time' - the only time that actually exists:

What's important now is all that matters. What's important later will reveal itself in time.

Too often, we let thoughts pull us out of being in the present moment. You can't 'be' while in a state of 'thinking' because thinking usually pulls us back or forward in time. The thoughts that derail us are tied to our interpretation of reality which is flawed.

Our thoughts about reality are flawed because we have biases of experience (or lack thereof).

Reality is objective, yet our thoughts are subjective (and we are the subject).

The only way to see reality as it is? Cease thinking about it, and experience it.

But doing so takes effort, and we're lazy.

We'd rather think about an experience than actually have it because the experience itself often falls short of our idea of it. It's a safer bet and you're guaranteed not to be let down.

It's easier to complain about it than it is to do something about it.

It's easier to delay the outcome than to put ourselves to the test.

We don't want to be judged or embarrassed - and avoid putting ourselves in a position where either could happen. We live in a state of constant fear.
