“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.” ~ Alfred D Souza
Do you see obstacles or opportunities ahead?
Do you have a bias towards failure when you see obstacles? What about a bias towards success when you see opportunity?
The are two sides of the same coin.
Bias:
Failure follows obstacles.
Success follows opportunity.
Reprogram:
Failure = Success
Obstacle = Opportunity
We try to avoid obstacles, but we seek out opportunities.
Scenario: I need 4 new tires for my car. The cost is $700.
Obstacle view:
It's costly. I don't think I can afford them right now. I'll keep driving on the one's I've got until I can't. But I know I risk a blowout, which could result in a much costly repair, even death.
Opportunity view:
I will be safer as a result. I will get better gas mileage. It will push me to generate new business to pay for them. The new business I found to pay for the tires turned into a huge opportunity for me later. (I can't foresee the future, but expect it'll be better)
Friction occurs when we resist what is. Instead of pushing back and causing more tension, go with the flow trust in the perfection of the moment.
"Obstacles only become visible when we lose sight of the goal."
