Obsession and Focus

Focus comes from having an obsession on whatever it is you are doing. To become obsessed is to embody the act you are engaged in.

When an idea becomes a project, and that project becomes your obsession, an outcome is inevitable. Stay committed to the original intention, but unattached to a specific result. All you have to do is set the destination and trust that the path will appear. No one can say when, where, or how - and it rarely appears without more work than we expected. We often need to remind ourselves of the destination because the bright shiny objects will always try to pull us off course. Your path may not look the same as anyone else's path, but stay on it - know that it is the right path for you.

Perhaps our body & mind exist to serve our own soul. But sometimes, I believe our mind & body exist to serve other souls. And more often than not, I find that in serving other souls, my own soul is further enriched.

Obsession can be healthy.

Let go of yourself

What if... For a stitch, you became your client? You embody their body and soul. You see the world as they see the world. You take on a level of intensity like never before. You become them. You notice what they notice. They're primary concern becomes your primary concern. How would you see you if you were them?

The secret to living in the space of ’now’

Our ability to focus on the task at hand - that is, to give our full attention to the act itself - to devote ourselves to be fully ‘here’ in the moment.

When you become one with the task at hand, you become one with the activity - the act of doing. Who you are is what you do.

The painter and the painting become one.

The song and the songwriter become one.

Who you are becomes what you are doing.

The source of creativity

Witnessed in creatives who in the act of creating. Nothing can break their concentration (nor should it). The roof could fall over them and they would still be fully engaged in the act.

Timeless

It’s like when I’m writing and I have a sense that the words I write are being read - I literally become each letter of each word. I become timeless because it does not matter when the words are read, yet they are read at some point in time, it’s just that all time collapses into a single point.

To be here now, now is relative to time. But now is timeless. The words I write are being read by you, yet it does not matter when you read them, only that you read them.

Our lives are like that. If you zoom out far enough - your entire life can be seen as a single point. The illusion is that our mind must create a distance, for it cannot comprehend an entire life in a single instant. But when you remove the aspect of time (a man made concept), what remains? Just a single point. We are but the tip of a pencil.

Paying attention

I notice that I heat up when I get aggravated or agitated. When I consume foods or drinks that jack up my dosha.

Obsession and being consumed

I am not obsessed. I just have a healthy uninterrupted devotion to life.

I choose to have a healthy uninterrupted devotion to my wife.

I seem to ‘back off’ when I feel I am overdoing something. Do I really?

One thing a life from the perspective of a yoga class has taught me, is that being consumed is part of life.

But then I realized that we are consumed by life. What's normal is to be consumed by living a meaningful life. What’s not normal is to be sleep walking, disengaged, and unduly influenced by the words and opinions of others.

Hell, even the words and opinions of ourselves should be met with caution.

We are mind, body, and spirit.

Create love play everyday.

Our spirit exists to thrive through our mind & body.

Yoga is the practice of quieting the mind.

“One becomes firmly established in practice only after attending to it for a long time, without interruption and with an attitude of devotion.

[Uninterrupted devotion.]

With this truth bearing light will begin a new life. Old unwanted impressions are discarded and we are protected from the damaging effects of new experiences.

For those who have an intense urge for spirit and wisdom, it sits near them, waiting.

Yoga is the cessation of the movements of the mind. Then there is abiding in the Seer's own form. - Patañjali

“Yoga is difficult for the one whose mind is not subdued.”

“One who has control over the mind is tranquil in heat and cold, in pleasure and pain, and in honor and dishonor; and is ever steadfast with the Supreme Self.”

“Delusion arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. Reasoning is destroyed when the mind is bewildered. One falls down when reasoning is destroyed.”

“Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.”

Take on the mind of a scientist. begin see things for how they really are. don’t let your results be clouded by false opinions formed from past experiences.

“The mind is restless and difficult to restrain, but it is subdued by practice.”

“Little by little, through patience and repeated effort, the mind will become stilled in the Self.”
