When my Mac Bluetooth Keyboard Stopped Working

(and what I did to fix it)

I almost bought a new keyboard, until I discovered it due to this problem!

After months of having a strange intermittent problem where sometimes my bluetooth keyboard world connect to my macbook, and other times it would not... here's what finally fixed the problem.

The keyboard can only connect to one device at a time. Unbeknownst to me, if my iPad was within distance (sometimes it was, sometimes it wasn't), when I turned on my keyboard, it would connect to my iPad first! Even though it was in a different room.

When the keyboard connects to the iPad first, the bluetooth channel isn't available for any other devices (i.e. my macbook).

Not sure if this is a problem related to the older mac keyboard I'm using or if it's still the case with newer keyboards as well.

But alas, the problem was solved when I turned off the bluetooth on my iPad and turned the keyboard off and on again.

I'm sharing this because I spent hours searching for a solution on the web unable to find the fix... but then again, there really isn't a solution for operator error, is there?
