Crafting a livelihood around what you enjoy allows you to get paid to go to school! It demands you take classes that are incrementally more difficult.
You can't jump into Finance 202 until you've completed Finance 101. The senior project of finance will require you to apply everything you've learned. It's on the senior project wher you apply what you've learned, act on your knowledge, and are ultimately tested. No more laboratories. No more trial runs. This is sink or swim time. You will either pass or fail.
Who's in your classroom?
You are not usually learning as much as you could when you sit in a room. It's much more effective to have other students to interact with, to gauge your progress to, and to hold you accountable.
Sometimes you need one-on-one tutoring. That was the case for me to learn to meditate. More often however, you need to be in a group. That was the case with Landmark Education.
At the end of Landmark, you are put into a graduate program of sorts (called SELP) where you have to do a senior project. My SELP project was 50 Interviews. It sent my life in a totally new direction and forced me to get out of my comfort zone. Getting out of my comfort zone was essential to getting out of a funk I had been in for years.
I do wish they had an archive of SELP projects like Cal Poly has for Senior Projects.
What's encouraging to me about the #enough movement is that students are showing us that together as a unit they are much stronger than they are independently.
Independence is needed to overcome personal obstacles, but dependence on on another is essential.
The great thing about the college experience is that it's one of the few times in your life where everything is predetermined and fairly 'safe' in knowing that all you need to do is get through the curriculum.
Imagine if you built that kind of certainty into your life now.
You can create a curriculum for life. You choose the major. But you must pick one. It can be a hybrid of several subjects, but the money you earn will be in proportion to the demand for your skill.
Design your own adventure, and make it one that stirs enthusiasm in you. When you do, you have solved the biggest question of your life... What's my purpose.
