1440

I begin each day by setting a countdown until the end of the day. In minutes, we get 1,440 minutes per day. That is all. This creates a greater sense of urgency than counting down the hours for me.

Get a stopwatch a time it. Convince me otherwise.

Everyday, we get 1,440 minutes. The countdown begins at 12:00AM and by the time you likely awake at 6AM, 25% of the day is already gone:

Instead of time counting up till midnight, in a 1440 paradigm, time counts down.

Like like, time is impermanent. The clock is just a constant reminder.

Something I'm taking a closer look at right now is duration. I feel that the 1440 model is a more convenient way to track duration.

What we schedule time for is what gets done, and what gets done is the result of what we spend our time on. Example: It's

To convert 'clock' time to '1440' time:

Time begins at 12AM.

Calculate the duration between 12AM and the time you want to convert. For example, at 7AM, the duration between 12AM and 7AM is 7 hours. Next, multiple hours by minutes to get the duration in minutes. In this example, 7 hours x 60 minutes = 420 minutes. Lastly, subtract 420 from 1440. You get 1020.

Of course there's an app for it!

An example:

I want to do more writing. I must allocate time in advance. I block out 1440 time:

I can block out 40 mins of uninterrupted time to write.

Start @ 960 (8am)
Finish @ 920 (40 mins later) (8:40am)

I am exploring a strategy to amp up my 1440 focus sessions using a Tabata/HIIT timer app.

"We tend to think of life lived as series of successions and timeless segments. In truth, life is actually lived at 60 minutes per hour."

Throughout my day, I take time to pause and ask myself these Daily 5 stoic questions:

  1. What meaning making opportunities have I put into my daily schedule?
  2. What are the most vital deadlines for today and this week?

Like the battery power on your laptop, the day expires and needs to be recharged. You can stay up till 11pm and sleep tell 6am. You'll still get 7 hours of sleep.
